God’s Silly Vassal Part One

Of course, this probably means I certified myself, which is a first in my long certifiable history!!
James I Pervert and Tyrant

(a potted history) James the I of England and VI of Scotland wrote several books. There had been such hope for England when James inherited the crown after Elizabeths death. As he was from a strong Calvinistic background, John Knox had presided at the young James Baptism. But hopes were dashed when James turned out to be nothing beyond pervert and tyrant. Presbyterianism can never co-exist with tyranny. The one system, where God has complete control and sovereignty over man, makes the other impossible. One of James books was a book called A counterblast against tobacco in which he described tobacco smoking as:

loathsome to the eye, hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain, dangerous to the lungs, and in the black stinking fumes thereof nearest resembling the horrible stigient smoke of that pit that is bottomless.

Now everyone is entitled to thier opinion as regards the ills of smoking or not, but for such a pervert to have such an opinion about something so mild comparatively speaking is a tetch silly! At this time there were over 7, 000 tobacco shops in London. But James wanted smoking outlawed and banned. and if not for someone reminding him of personal loss of revenue to the crown, it may have happened, but he relented on not stopping the tobacco commerce from Virginia thinking of the financial loss he would imbue by doing so. He was Married with two sons, yet he was an insatiable homosexual. (everyone thought when Prince Edward –the Queen’s youngest son married it would quash all rumours about his sexuality but the truth is we will never know the truth. No smoke without fire is a well known saying, and it has been proved time and time again about the Royals, Charles and Diana’s tumultuous relationship being a good example.) But back to the plot. James was described by someone who knew him personally as:

He was grasping, difficult and peculiar. James spoke rapidly but thickly using odd unexpected terms. “

His was the jeering style, -well known amongst homosexual today his language was so filthy that English historians still refuse to relay it. He hid from the people, he wore padded clothing against assassins. He drank incessantly and openly panted after handsome young men. (For some reason Michael Jackson popped into me head!!) James gave speeches with lewd innuendos about his private life. He set out to openly offend and affront the puritans at every opportunity. In one such speech full of hate and blasphemy he said:

I James am neither a god nor an angel but a man like any other, therefore I act like a man and cnfess to loving those near to me more than any other men. You may be sure that; I love the earl of Buckingham more than anyone else, and more than you who are here assembled I wish to speak on my own behalf and not to have it thought; to be of defect for Jesus Christ did the same and therefore I cannot be blamed. Christ has his John, and I have my George.

When James ascended petitions were given him because of the way the puritans had suffered under Elizabeths reign there were many in dire circumstances and need. One such petition was the .millenary petition which included the requests of: Please discontinue the use of the cross in Baptism. Please discontinue calling the preacher priests and the wearing of surplices and clerical garbs The longsomeness of the worship service be abridged. Please make more room in the worship service for preaching. Don’t allow people to be bishops and get a salary if they’re going to live somewhere else and not be on the job. Let the church practice discipline Please make sure that people within the English church use greater strictness in keeping the Sabbath Holy. He agreed to hold a conference to air all these grievances. Jan 14, 16, 18, 1604. Hampton Court. Where he soon showed his true colours. The aim was to reconcile the puritan dissenters with the church of England. The puritans wanted a biblical order of worship, no prayer book and wanted the puritans grievances to have redress. He smiled at the bishops who recognized him as divine King, and bowed down to him and revered him, but to the puritans he was rude and threatening and contentious. He agreed to a new translation of the Bible. He struck out some of the more objectionable chapters of the apocrypha. He promised that priest could marry, but in the most offensive liturgical ceremonies there was no change and people must subject themselves to these ceremonies or suffer civil penalties. The puritans wanted these things to be considered: The Scarcity of preachers. The abundance of none preaching bishops and prelates. But James ignored those not seeing them as problematic.

He outlawed presbyteries saying The hidden agenda of puritans was to try and establish a Scottish presbytery in England.

No Bishop No King. Was his maxim for life. As long as bishops were within the church he felt his crown was safe as demonstrated in these words of his.:

Presbyteries agree with the monarchy as well as God with the devil. There, Jack, Tom, Will and Dick shall meet and at their pleasure shall censure me and my counsel.:

He closed the conference with these words aimed at the puritans: If this be all the party has to say, I will make them conform or else harrie them out of the land or else do worse, hang them, that is all.

James and his first parliament. Parliament met. And he decided to appear in the house of commons filled with puritans and to their utter abhorrence he made his entrance resting his arm on a handsome young man. He announced that England and Scotland are united into one. Which God hath in my person bestowed upon you. Of Scotland and England he said,I am the husband and the whole island is my lawful wife. I am the head it is my body. I am the shepherd it is my flock. and he says all this with the young man at his side and then denounced the puritans. He dissolved the parliament and resolved to govern if possible without parliaments in the future. This gave the English a deep resentment of him as they saw their liberties being trodden on and tyranny ruling. The Kings book of canons was adopted which contained 141 laws and rules for the church over half of which was aimed at silencing the puritans and weakening their cause. The church leaders passed all these laws. Archbishop Bancroft, the grand inquisitor enforced all these canons and laws of the King with utmost zeal. Many of the puritans who refused to comply with these cannons were silenced and banished and large numbers were driven out by poverty and risk of life and many left the country, harried out of England and to escape being hanged in England just as James had threatened as he closed the conference at Hampton Court.. The puritans were not allowed to complain or allowed redress and it was near treason to do so. The quickest way to advance in the church of England was to mock and cast aspersions on the puritans. Over 1500 puritan preachers were silenced and deprived of their jobs. Andrew Melville, Knoxes successor was a threat to James and his tyranny. Melville referred to the King as : God’s silly Vassal. In 17th century England the word silly meant weak and frail. Melville said these words to the King: Sir, you are bought in extreme danger, both of your life and your crown. And with you the country and kirk of Christ, is like to wreck, and therefore sir I must tell you there are two kings and two kingdoms in Scotland, there is Christ Jesus the King, and His Kingdom the Kirk whose subject James VI is, and of whose Kingdom he is neither a king, nor a lord, nor a head but a member. And that was the exact attitude that shows that Presbyterianism and tyranny can not co exist. Melville had to be silenced. There will no doubt be a part Deux to this at some point in time. but for now, I rest my case. The monarchy sucks, and we should all plan a revolution, and dethrone the lot of ‘em. The fact that Prince Charles could ascend to the thone at the death of the present Queen even though he is divorced which is against all laws for Royal Ascession, again speaks of tryanny if they change the rules to fit his life. Another baccilicum dorum. The Divine Right of Kings. The Kings law is the law. And they reckon at his coronation to fit in with him being defender of faiths, he will be crowned at Wesminster Abbey and then have a service in muslim also, to include the many faiths he has swore to uphold and defend. Anyone up for joining my renegade brigade huh?
