I sometimes watch a channel that is on subscription television here in the UK called "Crime and Investigation." I tihink women particuarly will often find programmes such as is on this channel interesting. Though I’m not exactly sure why. But in my experience (which admitedly is limited) its almost always women exclusively that watch them.
Anyhow, I saw a documentary awhile ago, about the female serial killer Eileen Warnos. She was a strange, cold fish I think. I think it may very well be true that psychopaths have cold blood, much like reptiles do, which is why they don’t have the emotional responses to human suffering that normal human beings do.
I saw a movie several years ago now about Eileen Warnos. It was the first time I had heard the name. And I don’t recall alot about it, except the movie was hugely sympathetic towards her. OK, so she had a troubled upbringing and a less than ideal family life when growing up, but plenty of folks will come from as bad or some times even worse backgrounds than she did, and still not go on to harm, let alone kill anyone, let alone seven or more people.
When she was in prison in earlier life for three years, she spent much of her time reading her Bible. Complaning about being in prison with lesbians. She comes out of pirson, turns to drink and drugs (obviously throwing away her bible) and then starts on a lesbian relationship.
When she was sentenced to death for the murders she commited, she is supposedly once again said to have turned to God. And no one can say for certain the state of someones eternal estate, but after hearing of her last letter and confession where in the letter she was trying to "get right with God" and while she confessed to some things and sins and transgressions she was still blaming others for the murders she committed which doesn’t seem to speak of very much heart felt repentance.
One thing I found strangely odd in this whole story. Is that when she was arrested, some local woman who was apparently a born again Christian, became very interested in her case and took to visiting her. And she and her husband adopted this 35 (at tht time) year old serial killer. Looking for the good in people is one thing, but a name that will go down in history as notorious for being a female serial killer apart from anything else, just strikes me as distinctly odd, that a born again Christian felt led to minister to her, when there were likely others in the same local prison who were more savable than Eileen Warnos.
When she was on death row they said she spent 23 hours a day in lockdown, Alone. And that she was starved of human company and love starved because of it. And that was the reason she requested (and was granted) that her automatic appeals against her death sentence were stopped as she coldn’t stand what being so starved of humanity did to her as a human being. Death was preferrable to her.
As someone who spends 24/7 in solitary most of the time, and during that time is coping with chronic illness, I could at least relate to how that made her feel. Except she had her health and had put herself in her prison by her vicious, sadistic crimes against humanity. Eileen Warnos had a way out, by stopping the appeals she could be put to death and perhaps, reach her expectation of going to be with Jesus. Whether or not she actually did, its what she beleived would happen at least. Some of us who have not committed such heinous crimes against humanity, are in more than 23 hours of lockdown most days, or equivalent of, , and all that time dealing with horrendous chronic illness, wishes it was as easy to find release. It seems to me that mostly the bad guys always get the better deals.
